Warren Frederick’s stint as a social science researcher that began at The Urban Institute in Washington, DC, after a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, was forever interrupted by clay. After a subsequent MFA degree, Frederick became a professional potter in the early 1980’s. Living in Warrenton, Virginia since 1988, Frederick shares a studio with fellow clay artist and wife, Catherine White. Aesthetically they pursue independent visions while assisting each other in clay mixing, wood and gas firings, and the many facets of studio life. After thirteen years of assisting Rob Barnard, they built their own anagama in 1996. Frederick’s pottery has been widely exhibited and is included in The Renwick Gallery and other museum collections.
