Artist Statement

Painters create. Viewers recreate.

Collectors of art create in their own right by combining diverse work. This combination is unrepeatable.

A cursory observation might scream that my paintings on display are discordant as a body of work. However, they were created by the same painter using the same color palette with the same brushes, palette knives, hands, and fingers.

While using consistent tools, I feel unrestrained in how best to bring forth the unseen to the seen. Will the painting evolve into realism, abstraction, or a merging of the two? I discover this as I work my way through the process trusting that a harmonious image will emerge.

While I’m painting, preconceived opinions are not forced, and I eagerly deviate. Spontaneity is key, and I hope each painting reflects that thrill of discovery.

I try to throw everything I have into each painting. As a professional and practicing painter for over 52 years, I have learned to trust my gut. Occasionally my gut is off a bit, but often I am led to a serendipitous painting because “being off” never leads to failure.
