I consider the art of pottery or vessel-making a very humanistic experience overall. Each vessel has its own personality and identity. Each is created individually and thoughtfully. They may look similar, but the more you spend time with each, the more you realize that every piece has its own character, just like people.
As a ceramics’ artist, the process of creating is just as important to me as the vessel itself as it is so relatable humanistically. Before we see the beautiful end-product, each vessel endures much trauma, with each step making it stronger than ever before. Now sometimes, a vessel may not be able to withstand the trauma and become damaged as a result. After all, not all vessels are created the same and therefore endure the trauma differently. Here, as an artist, it is my job to embrace that damage and help the piece shine in its own unique way as best as I can.
